Capofaro Resort is perched in a magnificent setting high on the cliffs and in the heart of a Malvasia vineyard near Santa Maria, the main town of Salina island. The hotel is pretty much the only place to stay on Salina and has 20 rooms. Kirker says it would suit wine lovers and fans of the 1995 movie Il Postino, which was filmed on the island. Three nights’ bed and breakfast with flights and transfers this summer costs £1,089.
MALTA/GOZO/COMINO.
HotelConnect favours Gozo for a quiet escape.
“Hideaway hotels only really exist on Gozo rather than Malta itself, which tends to be busy wherever you go,” says head of product Ian Ackland.
He recommends the four-star Ta Cenc at Sannat. Located at the island’s highest point, the hotel is isolated and the company says

the hotel’s bee-hive Trullo cottages are ideal for romantic couples. June prices are from £51 per person per night.
For energetic types, the same hotel is the base for Headwater’s seven-night walking holiday. “There are coastal paths, breathtak- ing views and fishing villages to explore,” says programme director Charlotte Oldham. Inghams also favours Sannat, where it has a family-friendly holiday house in a quiet position near the centre, while the Cosmos Villas with Pools programme has a farmhouse villa in the hilltop village of San Lawrenz. Belleair Holidays highlights Comino Hotel & Suites – the only hotel that the operator features on Comino. The island’s crystal-clear water makes it perfect for relaxed swimming and snorkelling – with little chance of bumping into other swimmers. Seven nights start from £399 half-board in May.
Corsican Places introduces new Stansted- Calvi charters this summer and has a choice of new accommodation in tucked-away places. Featured for the first time is Casa Ghjulia, a contemporary four-bedroom villa perched on a mountainside above the village of Erbalunga against a backdrop of Monte Stello. It’s handy for exploring the many coves and tiny fishing villages of the Cap Corse or walking in the mountains.
