OIA UPDATE OUTDOOR SECTION
OIA Update
The revitalisation of the OIA continues apace, behind the scenes and in the public
arena. Two key projects have been completed over the summer – the new website
and a major research project. Both were major tasks that took several months; the
website provides the association and its members with a communications platform
for the industry and for consumers, while the results of the research project will give
the organisation and members valuable data about outdoor consumer attitudes.
Other activities that are already underway include: proactive PR activity to promote
the outdoors and outdoor industries; engagement with Government on potential
legislation and initiatives that affect outdoor industries; outreach work to explore
areas for collaboration with other complementary organisations; and the first stages
of work to establish a menu of enhanced services that the OIA can provide to
members.
New OIA website
Over the summer, the OIA has designed
and built a new website for the OIA,
hosted at
www.outdoorindustriesassociation.co.uk.
The site has now gone live. As with
many websites, it is a work in progress
and new functionality and content will
be added over time. The site has two
main sides to it – one for business and
the other for consumers. All members
have a directory listing on the site and
are being encouraged to contribute
content (news, events, details of job vacancies).
OIA outdoor consumer research
The second major project completed over the last few months is a major piece of
consumer research. Managed by Peter Luscombe of Profile Outdoors Ltd, the
research gauged the opinions of over 10,000 outdoor consumers on a range of
topics of importance to the outdoors sector. Among other issues, the research
reviewed the outdoor sector’s position in the wider leisure market, tested consumers’
buying habits and canvassed attitudes to the environment and environmentally
friendly products. The full research report, ‘Shaping the Future’, along with the
detailed research data, will be provided free of charge to all OIA members who are
signed up for 2008.
