polyester/wool blend, while the jumpers and hats are 100% merino wool. “The touch and feel is something special,” Healy insists. “No one is paying this kind of attention to detail in the kids’ lines. Why shouldn’t they have a decent quality garment to wear? It adds the feel of professionalism they want to display. “Yes, these clothes are at the

higher end of the market, but you can always mix and match these higher-end products with lower- end garments. Ultimately I feel it’s a reasonable price for a piece of British investment and exclusivity.” Healy has also attempted to

build in some growth spurt-proof measures into the clothes. Trousers have an adjustable waist and unfinished hems, with room to let down. “But above all, the quality means they will wash and wear beautifully. They are not suddenly going to look like some ragged piece of cloth; they should look as lovely as when you first bought them. You should get two seasons out of them, and of course they can be handed down.” Given the recent push to encourage girls

from the opening of Twitter and Facebook accounts, a website and flyers, though the new brand was at the London Golf Show from November 13-15. For now Healy is attempting to retail directly

to the public, though she has hinted at an interest in creating a select number of trade partnerships. “I guess we’d be looking at high- end golf clubs,” she asserts, “although the feedback we have suggests those clubs don’t always have much of a junior section, and don’t do a lot of investing in their juniors. Hopefully that will be proved wrong.” In the meantime though, the bravery of Healy

in launching high-end kids’ clothing should be applauded, though it remains to be seen whether it will kickstart an interest in bespoke junior apparel. “Ultimately, I think golf’s juniors are quite neglected and what’s out there for them is uninspiring,” she concludes. “We need to encourage more juniors into the game, and giving them the chance to look and feel better on the course seems to me a simple and effective way to do that. “I don’t know if Joseph Garratt will raise

interest in junior apparel; but if it did, it would be no bad thing.”
