DAREN TREACY: Diamond Golf Managing Director

Treacy: "We're delighted and excited to have launched our Academy, it’s been two years in the making so to see it come to fruition is very satisfying. "There's a big demand for professionally-

accredited club-fitting and club-making courses - whether a Pro is in the first stage of their career, or is more experienced and wants a refresher course on the latest equipment and techniques. "With an ever-increasing demand for custom fit

clubs from golfers, it's essential for any club professional or assistant to be able to offer these services to their members." Diamond Golf is Europe's largest supplier of golf

club components and workshop machinery and tools. So it is ideally-placed to launch an Academy to make sure the art of club-making and repair is passed on to future generations of Pros. For a full prospectus and time table of

The Art of Club Fitting The 'Art of Club Fitting' module delivers

practical advice on how to custom fit clubs and why it's important to help golfers achieve better results from their kit. As well as learning all aspects of club fitting, each delegate will build a golf club from scratch giving them the opportunity to understand the full fitting process, from grip to toe. The course is comprehensive, with over 20

key elements of club fitting covered in detail e.g. loft and lie, MOI, face progression, shaft weight and flex, torque, bend profiles etc. The 'Art of Clubmaking' course demonstrates

how important it is to interview golfers to find out exactly what they want to achieve from their equipment and to collect, keep and explain vital data that underpins the custom fitting process. In all, at the end of the course, delegates will not only have the practical skills required to build a golf club - they will also have the confidence and ability to communicate effectively with their customers, showcase and market their business as a reliable custom- fitting centre, and deliver outstanding customer service.

Complete Club Repairs Diamond Golf International believes that

even with the advent of modern club materials, the club professional can deliver value and customer service to their members through a club repair service. The 'Complete Club Repairs' course looks at modern golf clubs, examines the materials used in their construction, investigates what can go wrong with them - and demonstrates how they can be repaired. Staple Pro-shop enquiries like how to stop a

driver head from rattling, re-gripping and measuring and adjusting loft and lie angles are all covered along with more complex tasks like removing steel and graphite shafts from clubs - including shafts broken flush with the hosel.

The course also demonstrates how to install

new steel and graphite shafts in irons for both parallel and taper tips, reshafting woods using specialist ferrules and adapters for different tip sizes and hosels and shaft tip trimming and preparation using trimming charts for irons and woods.

Advanced Club Fitting The 'Advanced Club Fitting' course is designed

for those who have a base understanding of club fitting, but now want to deepen their knowledge using some of the more modern techniques and practices that have evolved in recent years. MOI matching and shaft profiling are

examples of topics that will be covered in detail, the aim being for delegates to leave with a thorough understanding of these key areas. Putter fitting will also be covered with

delegates learning the measurements and observations needed to custom fit a putter to

the golfer e.g stance, grip, shaft length etc. SGBGOLF 9
