n recent years there has been increasing interest in an ephemeral, viral form of art that has marked urban settings around the world, developing a flourishing subculture in the process. Empress Contemporary Gallery is excited to announce “Off the Wall,” featuring renowned street artists Chor Boogie, Mike “Bam” Tyau, APEX, and Codak. Saturday, April 26, all four internationally acclaimed artists will create graffiti art live on walls constructed in the middle of San Diego’s Mission Federal ArtWalk 2014. contemporary artists a wider audience, exposing their engaging and thought-provoking work to a larger community. Its mission is to show work that is not only of contemporary interest, but lasting historical and artistic value. In addition to the live art showcase at ArtWalk, Empress Contemporary will be hosting an exclusive event featuring the artists that Saturday evening at the Empress Contemporary loft in San Diego’s Historic Gaslamp District. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with these world-renowned street artists in an intimate setting with hosted food and cocktails.

The four street artists featured at this event are known around the world for their unique style and the impact they have had on the contemporary art scene. Their talents, seen all across America’s urban landscape, allow a city’s identity to take shape through art.

Originally from San Diego, the artist known as Chor Boogie currently resides in San Francisco, but he has traveled extensively to exhibit his work around the world. His drive and passion fueled his study, from Renaissance masters such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Rembrandt to more recent greats including Van Gogh, Klimt, and Dali. Chor Boogie combines these influences with a street culture learned from such modern-day spray paint “mentors” as Phase 2 and Vulcan, something which, in turn, helped guide his lifestyle into a life itself.
