A romantic at heart, Steven Quartly embraces the special moments in life through his oil paintings, looking to bring out the romantic in us all. Whether capturing a sentimental meal shared with a loved one, a picturesque European scene where intimacy reverberates across the city, or the “golden hour” light, Quartly’s masterpieces create a special mood not easily forgotten. They embody his values, ideals, spirituality, and appreciation for life, serving as a memoir of his experience. “My work is inspired from our travels,” Quartly says, “my wife and I and our family — and passions of just visions that I have and places that I’ve been and the romance of life.” Quartly’s rich hues contrasted with his soft Impressionist use of the palette knife create a distinct harmony, while hisacute observation of light and ability to construct perspective actually include the viewer in the painting. His style is reminiscent of the Romantic period yet it also possesses an individual flair of Impressionism with which he transcribes his heart and soul into each piece. Quartly sees beauty in each moment, and pausing to take it all in, he produces an almost euphoric feeling that leaves the viewer in awe. As was customary among the Impressionists, Quartly stays true to himself, causing his palette to change with his emotions over time. “I was talking to some folks tonight about painting and evolving,” he said during an exhibition last November, “...[and I realized that in looking at all my work on the gallery walls that I] just kind of busted out of a dark period where all my work
