Despite trailing by five strokes in the first round, the Del


Rio GCC team rallied to capture the club’s second NCGA Zone Championship title. The team of Dennis Culberston, Richard Deponte, Tim


Speer and Chris Wells sat alone in fourth after a first-round 125 at Spyglass Hill GC, but an impressive final-round 119 at Del Monte GC was enough to chase down Sacramento GC by three strokes. Del Rio GCC finished with a two-day total of 44-under 244. Del Rio GCC was the only team to break the 120


barrier during the event. The quartet of golfers made four net double eagles, five net eagles and four net birdies for a scorecard filled with red. The Sacramento GC team of Larry Andreatta, Nathan


Andreatta, Dave Marks and Jason Marks finished second, while Stonetree GC took home third after sharing the first round lead with Dry Creek GC.

The 31st Annual NCGA Associate Club Champion-


ship featured an exciting two-hole sudden-death playoff at Spyglass Hill GC, with the Pac Bell GC of Sacto team nip- ping Masters Big Valley GC team with a clinching birdie. “This (win) is completely unexpected,” said Pac Bell’s

Zweigle, Ronald Custodio and Jeremy Kopp, made up a six-stroke deficit going into the final round with a blistering start at Spyglass Hill, snagging five net eagles and two net birdies to go an impressive 11-under at the turn. Pac Bell’s final round 29-under-par 130 rallied the team into a tie against the Masters Big Valley GC team, comprised of Lee Coelho, Bill Cardoza, Frank Oliveira and Eric Jung, at 32-under-par 256 to force a playoff. The playoff began with both teams recording net pars on the par-4 10th. Pac Bell GC finished with a net birdie on the par-5 11th to win the title. Finishing tied for third was the Caddy Club of Pebble Beach team and the BDGE GC team.
