Northern California Junior Players Championship Tyler Collier & Mabel Wong | Rancho Canada | July 10-11
Corey Pereira and Samantha Hutchison A year after falling short in a playoff, Corey Pereira
captured the elusive and prestigious NCGA Junior Cham- pionship title. Last year, Pereira finished the 36-hole event tied for first
before losing in a playoff to Taylor Bromley. This year, Pereira raced out to impressive rounds of 4-under-par 68 and 3-under-par 69 at daunting Spyglass Hill GC before closing with a 3-over-par 75 to win the 54-hole tournament by a stroke over Andrej Bevins. “It feels great to actually get it done this year,” said
Cameron Park’s Pereira, who was co-medalist of the California State Amateur earlier this summer. “I didn’t play so well in the final round, but I just went through my process and kept hitting good shots.” In the Girls Championship, Samantha Hutchison
entered the final round of the 36-hole tournament tied with Amanjoty Sangha at 75, but her final-round 77 was enough to win the event by two strokes. “My heart was racing,” said Hutchison of having the lead down the stretch. “I was nervous but I pulled through.”
