Nordyne, a leader in coil technology, developed micro-channel coil technology some time ago. Micro-channel coils were developed to reduce both the formicary and galvanic corrosion that has plagued the HVACR industry. These coils have been successfully incorporated in many products.
Nordyne is now incorporating another coil technology to maximize corrosion resistance of copper tube / aluminum fin coils used in their equipment. The name chosen for this technology is "Anteater™" relating to the appearance of formi- cary corrosion when viewed through a microscope.
ANTEATER™ COIL TECHNOLOGY
The Nordyne line of Anteater™ coils helps prevent leaks caused by formicary corrosion and is ideally suited for cli- mates and environments where formicary corrosion is an ongoing problem. They are designed to outlast standard coils in high moisture environments. Independent tests indicate the Anteater™ coil with UNIGUARD™ alloy performs 50 times better than the standard coil copper, regardless of copper thickness.
The Nordyne Anteater™ coil is made with UNIGUARD™ copper alloy, which includes zinc additives to stop formicary corrosion from tunneling through the material. When acid begins to attack the coil copper, the Anteater™ alloy prevents the acid from tunneling completely through the copper grain. Some surface pitting will still be evident, but the damage will be stopped before it can cause a leak.
