Petra remains hidden from outsiders for


centuries. T en an explorer hears about it. He tricks local guides into taking him there. Since then, archaeologists have studied


this ancient city in Jordan. T ese scientists have found coins, pottery, writings, and other artifacts. T ese objects from the past are clues about how the people of Petra lived. Still, this city hasn’t given up all its secrets.


Archaeologists have only dug up a small part of Petra. T ey still don’t know where its people went. Maybe future explorers will solve that mystery one day.
