Odour control savings not to be sniffed at


Instrumentation specialist Analytical Technology says it has developed a hydrogen sulphide monitor


that, for the first time,


enables the measurement of levels of H2S in difficult applications, while offering savings for monitoring systems of up to 90%.


With odour control changing from an afterthought to a primary design consideration for wastewater treatment plants (WwTPs), the company says its innovative odour monitoring system offers a continuous, accurate and reliable approach to on-line H2S monitoring in wet conditions at an affordable cost. The Q45S monitor for scrubbers, which has an installed cost of £2k, uses a sensor designed to operate in condensing gas streams without the water vapour blinding the sensor. This can be typical of standard sulphide monitors. The


scrubbing odour control systems start from £30,000, yet some H2S monitors cost up to £20,000, which is just not viable. Historically, sewage treatment plants have often struggled to justify the expense of installing H2S monitors that can cost up to 80% of the value of smaller plants.

Pulsar reaches sludge milestone


Success for ultrasonic instrumentation manufacturer Pulsar


Pulsar Process Measurement has found success for Sludge Finder, its popular sludge interface monitor, in framework agreements and sales across the globe. July saw a significant milestone with an order placed for the 750th Sludge Finder.

we have developed over the last fifteen years or so are now being applied across quite a wide family of products.” Sludge Finder uses a self-cleaning transducer to bounce a sonar signal from the interface layers throughout sludge settlement plant, intelligently analysing the signal to provide a profile of the sludge levels, including return activated sludge (RAS) and floc measurement from a single transducer.


Flint said, “There is no mystery to why Sludge Finder 2 has become so widely used, it’s simply because it works so reliably.”
