IMCI FOUNDER BELITA PEREZ PROVIDES THE COMMENTARY ON HER CLUB THAT WILL HAVE SEVEN ENTRIES IN USA SHOOTING’S PPP CHAMPIONSHIPS.

You began this quest in

hopes of fi nding a shoot- ing outlet for yourself. How has that changed/ evolved since the quest began? My father introduced me to shooting when I was 10. It was an occasional introduction to holding a rifl e and a pistol fi r- ing at tin can targets. Sadly, he died when I was 13 and that was the end of my shooting, but

somehow it left in me a desire for the sport. I picked up shoot- ing again seven years ago with an eye on international shooting and the Olympics. Living in New Jersey, I searched for places to train and recognized that there were no such structures in place for someone who is interested in this discipline. I found my- self joining a youth program in bullseye which has given me the head start in pistol shooting. In 2011, I received a call from USA Shooting and was connected to Mike Theimer, USAS Youth De- velopment Manager and Mar- cus Raab then of the NRA. They encouraged me to put together a group of shooters who were interested in being certifi ed as Level I coaches and who will take the challenge of pursuing a youth training program towards the path to the Olympics.

you fi nd the time to de- vote to IMCI and ensure its success? IMCI is a team effort from day one. The found- ers of IMCI were Norm Glitz, Mike Westock, Joe Sundra, Ray Dudz- inski and myself. Joe, unexpect- edly passed away last October 2012. We are a group of dedicated professionals with over 100 years of combined experience in competitive shooting, coaching, business management, banking, security, marketing, engineering and construction.

What do you feel has

been IMCI’s biggest suc- cess to date? IMCI took off on an impressive start by sending four qualifying athletes to the National Junior Olympic Shoot-

ing Championships in 2012. It took juniors athletes to the 2012 PPP Championship and secured a third-place result and bronze medallion in the mixed team competitions. In 2013, IMCI sent two aspiring junior Olympians to the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships.

The challenges you

face as a CTC and shoot- ing club in that part of the country are nothing short of extraordinary. Talk specifi cally about those challenges? Air guns are considered fi rearms in New Jersey and New York, and with mounting new gun laws in both States, these are big challenges for IMCI. We try to stay focused with our training programs and making certain that in the pro- cess we are at all times in com- pliance with the law. What does the future hold for IMCI? Having our
