Product Highlights ADVERTISEMENT VA-044 First Refractive Index Detector for UHPLC

Wyatt Technology announces the immediate availability of the Optilab UT-rEX (UHPLC refractometer with EXtended range), the first RI detector specifically designed for use with UHPLC systems using columns packed with

Wako’s VA-044 {2,2’-Azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)propane]dihydro- chloride} is a non-nitrile azo initiator originally used in industrial applications. Recently, researchers at Stanford have found a new usage for VA-044 in life science research, allowing for transparent imaging of whole mouse brains. The technology is also applicable to other biological systems.

New GC Column Separates Critical PAHs, Including

Triphenylene and Chrysene Rxi®-PAH GC columns from Restek provide a unique selectivity to separate PAHs for food safety that cannot be distinguished by MS. Even difficult priority compounds, such as the EFSA PAH4, are easily separated and accurately quantified, results that cannot be achieved on typical GC columns.

Rxi®-PAH columns (fused silica) (midpolarity proprietary phase) are ideal for EFSA PAH4 analysis—separate all priority compounds: benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, and benzo[a]pyrene. The columns provide best resolution of chrysene from interfering PAHs, triphenylene, and cyclopenta[cd]pyrene.

The ULVAC GHD magnetic coupling rotary vane pump eliminates oil leaks and shaft seal wear. A check valve below the inlet port stops oil backflow, eliminating messy cleanups and maintenance downtime. GHD pumps offer reduced power consumption,

operate quieter, and at lower temperature. These pumps are ideal for use in analytical instrumentation and laboratory environments.

small beads. Using a combination of miniaturized components and cutting-edge semiconductor photodiode technology as well as proprietary computer algorithms, the UT-rEX presents a host of instrument firsts: Besides UV, mass spectrometry, and evaporative light scattering, there has been no RI detector available for UHPLC applications until now. The linearity of the UT-rEX over a wide concentration range coupled with its sensitivity to samples that are not UV active make it an exciting addition to UHPLC.
