nderstanding how to do busi- ness abroad is critical, allow- ing meeting professionals to


expand their reach and connect with a wider audience — particularly in the exploding Asia-Pacific region. To help planners enhance that connection, PCMA is hosting the Global Profession- als Conference at the Hawaii Conven- tion Center in Honolulu on Aug. 26–29. The conference is a highly interac-


tive, collaborative, invitation-only pro- gram for global meeting planners who have held a meeting in the Asia-Pacific

region and have plans to hold others in the future. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with a small group of senior suppliers from conven- tion centers and convention bureaus in the region. “This year’s Global Professionals


program is a bit different than in the past,” said Michelle Crowley, PCMA’s manager of global development, “as it focuses on the Asia-Pacific region ver- sus the entire globe.” Attendees can learn about cultural protocol from Honolulu’s East-West


Center, and education sessions will take a case-study approach to holding meet- ings in the Asia-Pacific region. Keynote speaker Jonathan Pain,


director of Australia-based JP Consult- ing (NSW) Pty. Ltd., will discuss his predictions for the future, including how Asia-Pacific’s advancements in the next decade will help contribute to the strongest economic growth the world has experienced in more than 30 years.
