2U VME64x system enables horizontal board mounting

Enclosures for demanding environments

New from OKW is IN-BOX, a range of industrial-strength plastic enclosures designed to cope with extremely demanding industrial environments.

There are 16 standard sizes available in the range, with external dimensions ranging from 84 x 82 x 55mm to 302 x 232 x 110mm. The housings are rated IP66 and IP67, and are offered moulded in ABS (UL 94 HB) or polycarbonate (UL 94 V-2). The ABS models are impact-rated to IK07 (two joules) while the stronger poly- carbonate models are rated to IK08 (five joules).

A Schroff VME64x system that has been designed for horizontal mounting of boards, thereby enabling a high level of functionality to be accommodated within a 19in chassis measuring just 2U in height, is available from Pentair Equipment Protection. According to the company, the system is fully compliant with the VITA 1.1-1997 specification. It incorpo- rates a 4-slot 6U VME64x backplane and both front and rear card cages with guide rails for four VME64x 6U boards – 160mm deep at the front and 80mm deep at the rear. The power backplane has two P47 connectors, ready for the installation of two 250W plug-in PSUs, and a power input module provides IEC 320-C14 con- nector, switch, filter and fuses. Also included is a hot-swap fan tray with two 12VDC fans and a fan-monitor module for active cooling of the boards and power supplies.

Housed in a shielded steel subrack, the VME64x system meets the require- ments of EMC standards EN 61000- 6-2 and EN 61000-6-3 and is finished in RAL 9005 black powder-coat paint. Pentair Equipment Protection www.schroff.co.uk Enter 258

Touchscreen panel PC

The Flexx-IPC-L-T Advanced touchscreen panel PC from Hoffmann + Krippner features an IP65/NEMA rating as standard and is suitable for deployment where the PC’s need to be pro- tected from moisture and liquids or the front panels need to be regularly washed down. This combines a 15in resistive touchscreen with extensive I/O connectivity and a variety of processor and memory configu- rations. As well as customising the software, hardware and touchscreen, system builders and integrators can specify turnkey front panel designs to further enhance the human machine interface (HMI) and system ‘look and feel’, says the company. The enclosures feature concealed mounting screws, and the lids have a recess for mounting a large membrane keypad or product label. Internal screw pillars are provided in the top and base for fitting PCBs, displays, mounting plates or DIN rails. The lids are mounted by quick action stainless steel locking screws. Accessories such as an internal mounting plate in insulating material, a wall mounting kit and an interior hinge kit are available; as are a range of customising options including CNC milling and drilling, silk-screen and tampo printing, etc. Applications for the enclosures include digital and analogue instrumentation, sensors, interfaces and security systems. Panel Fittings for electronic racks and server cabinets. Typically, such enclosures feature the need for specialist handles, hinges, swinghan- dles, rod latches and guides, door gasket, cable man- agement devices, finger pull handles, captive fas- teners, plus assorted guides, etc.

According to the com-

pany, many products are designed with time- saving in mind – such as the captive flex fastener system for 19” panels with manual or quick quarter-turn operation by Phillips screwdriver. FDB Panel Fittings T: 020 8568 1616

Verotec’s KM6 subrack family features four different systems: KM6-II, KM6-RF, KM6-EC and KM6-HD, each of which is optimised to suit a range of applications and uses. Three types of front panels are available – unshielded to IEC 60297, shielded to IEEE 1101.10 and a further design dedicated to the

VXI architecture. Shielded panels feature a new extrusion design that accepts a slide-on double swipe stainless steel EMC gasket and they have an environmentally safe, chrome-free conductive finish, iridite NCP. They are available as blank filler panels, with a fixed pull handle and with an improved design of injector/ejector latching handle that generates greater insertion and extraction force for use with high pin count connectors. The injector/ejector handles include, as standard, a pre-location pin and an ESD protection pin; a live extrac- tion micro switch and additional screw fixings are optional extras. Shielded panels are available in 3U, 6U and 9U heights and 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12HP widths as standard, with other widths to order. Unshielded versions are available as blank panels or with pull handles. Both types are available either with both faces anodised and plastic screw mounting bushes or, where electrical conduc- tivity with the frame is required, with an anodised front face, an iridite NCP rear face and metal fixing bushes. 3U and 6U heights are standard and widths vary from 2HP to full width 84HP, with hinged versions in popular widths as standard items. For VXI systems, shielded panels in a heavy duty extrusion that accepts beryllium copper shielding fingers are available in 6U and 9U heights, and 6HP widths are available as standard.
