An organization at your service

The following message from board of trustees president Dandy Risman was delivered to members during Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative’s 74th Annual Meeting, held Saturday, September 15, 2012, at the Grove Civic Center.

Cooperative. To borrow a line from American Express, membership has its privileges. What privileges you ask? Reliable power—Over the years, your cooperative has made sound investments in system improvement, which result in greater reliability and system efficiency. Because employees are your neighbors and live within communities we serve, we are able to provide fast response times to resolve power issues you might experience.

T

HE board of trustees and employees are here today for one reason—to serve you, our members. While this may not be an exclusive golf or boating club, you have made a very good choice by being a member of Northeast Oklahoma Electric

Commitment to Community—Your cooperative is very active within the community. Attending town council meetings and helping with local events are everyday occurrences. Through Operation Round-up, the cooperative has aided the membership in distributing over $2 million to worthy organizations and individuals. Youth—Your cooperative believes you reap what you sow. That is why it is important to sow the seeds of education and experience in our youth. Each year, the cooperative awards college scholarships and sends local youth on all-expense paid trips to Energy Camp and Washington, D.C.

In addition to educational trips and scholarships, your cooperative is an active supporter of 4-H; Future Farmers of America (FFA); and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Tradition—Established in 1938, your cooperative has maintained the same mission and goals for the last 74 years—ensure the availability of affordable and reliable electric service to all residents of northeast Oklahoma. We began as, and will always be, a non-profit that returns earnings to the members through the payment of capital credits. However, the most important tradition, which only cooperatives offer, is your right to guide the direction of your cooperative through your participation at district and annual meetings. Thank you for being here today.
