cushion sea star
Slow but Fie ce Invertebrates don’t always get along.
A hungry sea star wraps its five arms around a mussel. T e squishy mussel may look safe inside its hard shell. But the sea star pushes and pulls on the shell. Finally, the shell opens. T e sea star gobbles up the mussel. Both the sea star and the mussel
are invertebrates. Yet they belong to diff erent groups.
Fantastic Five T e sea star has a hard, spiny skin.
It also has a body based on the number five. So do all the other animals in this group. For example, the sea star has five arms. T e prickly sea urchin is also in this
group. It has five pointed teeth. Spines cover its body. T e sea cucumber looks like a sausage with tentacles. It has five double rows of feet.
