The Big Sting T e sea anemone is another kind of


invertebrate. It looks like a flower with long petals. It’s not a flower, though. Anemones are invertebrates—and they sting. T eir petals are really long tentacles. When a small fish zips by, an anemone zaps it with its tentacles. T at’s how an anemone catches its prey. Anemones belong to a large group


of invertebrates. Most of these animals have stinging tentacles. Some of them look strange. For


example, the sea pen looks like a feather. T e point is rooted in the ocean floor. T e feathery part stings prey. T e by-the-wind sailor is a tiny


jellyfish. It looks like a blue pancake. It moves when the small sail on its back catches the wind.
