ways and lush landscaping characterize the big layout, which skillfully accom- modates calm and trade wind conditions. The course is laid out over a former sugar plantation, and is now

part of a private members’ community but still offers limited access to visitors staying at cottages an easy walk from the clubhouse. The 320-yard 14th fits designer Tom Weiskopf ’s

GC, about 30 minutes from Boise, offers one of the lowest green fees of a new 18-hole course in recent memory—$18 M-F and $26 over the weekend. But the lower prices shouldn’t diminish expectations as the course is in terrific condition from the 10- year development period that finally culminated in its opening last July. The layout’s location in the high plains means large-scale

views and undulation are everywhere, and the course’s low rating and slope means golfers of all skill levels will enjoy it.

One notable design that was supposed to debut in 2012 was Tiger Woods’ High Carolina at the Cliffs near Asheville, North Caro- lina. But like many other courses in development, the project has been put on hold (spending was halted), meaning the U.S. will have to wait indefinitely for its first Tiger-designed course. While course construc-

tion continues to contract, if the 2012 crop is any indica- tion, those that do survive the development process are built for the long haul.
