F

or All the S

aints... The Reverend Robert P. Roth

“The smartest man I ever knew”—such was the assessment of Bob by a former President of the World Bank. The two had begun a lifelong friendship as college kids at Carthage in the early 1940s.

Bob provided living proof that the church attracts some great minds. An eminent scholar at Luther Seminary and other Lutheran institutions, Bob kept expanding his horizons all his life. He taught in India and circled the globe seven times in his studies.

Bob’s cheerful and friendly personality balanced his sheer grit and determination. He was an avid outdoorsman. In childhood, he overcame both pneumonia and polio to become a state cross country champion in high school. That spirit prevailed all his life.

Some years ago, Bob and his wife, Margaret, established a fund at Carthage to promote Chinese studies. In part because of the Roths, Carthage prepares students more effectively for their 21st century lives.

Planned and estate gifts to Carthage, such as will inclusions, charitable gift annuities and trusts, and life insurance, provide ideal opportunities to benefit you and the College. Call Dr. Jim Unglaube at 1-262-945-3024; send e-mail to junglaube@carthage.edu; or write to him at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin 53140.
