What Do Tose Charges Mean?

Te Customer Charge: Is a charge designed to recover specific items which must be in place in order to serve each customer before any electricity is pur- chased or sold. Te cost included in the customer charge does not vary with the volume of electricity sold.

Te Energy Charge: Is simply the rate charged per kilowatt hour of electricity times the amount of electricity used. Te rate is based on Ozarks’ tariffs, which are regulated by the Arkansas Public Service Commission.

Te Power Cost Adjustment: Tis charge may go up or down each month depending on the cost of producing electricity. Tis cost fluctuates each month based on the cost of fuel. Te fuel adjustment ensures that only fuel expenses actually incurred are charged to the customers, no more and no less. Te utility makes no profit on the credit or debit according to the cost that month.

Te Debt Cost Adjustment: Tere is two basic ways for a not-for-profit coopera- tive to raise capital for the purposes of extending service to new customers and maintaining and upgrading the existing system. Te Cooperative may (1) raise rates for electric service or (2) borrow funds from lending institutions. If Ozarks chooses to borrow funds, the interest expense on those funds are recovered through the cost of debt adjustment reflected on your bill. Te adjust- ment amount is determined on a quarterly basis and included in any increase or decrease in the amount of expense paid by the Cooperative. Ozarks submits quarterly reports to the commission regarding the amount of funds borrowed and the interest expense on that debt. Tese reports are closely monitored by the commission general staff.
