enealogy has recently become one of the most popular hobbies in the United States. As home to 39 federally recognized Indian tribes, countless waves of pioneer settlers, and the genesis of the great Okie migration during the Dust Bowl days, many people tracing their ancestry are fi nd- ing their roots begin right here in Oklahoma. This is why the Oklahoma Tourism and Rec- reation Department is pleased to announce a brand new feature on
TravelOK.com which assists visitors seeking to connect with their familial ancestry.
The Genealogy Section on
TravelOK.com is a user-friendly tool that guides visitors through a wealth of ancestral research destinations and resources all throughout Oklahoma. Searches on the site are broken down by county with quick links and information available on re- search libraries that contain copies of the Dawes Rolls, as well as county courthouses that house original land patents dating back to the land run. The new section on
TravelOK.com will also direct visitors to genealogical and his- torical societies, cemeteries, historical school houses, and much more.

Digging through your ancestry will often lead you to parts of the state you’ve never explored before, offering the perfect op- portunity to discover a few hidden gems in Oklahoma that add a little boost to the tradi- tional ancestral treasure hunt. Of course there are plenty of other ways to take a trip through time in Oklahoma. His- torical museums like the Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum in Woodward or Native American Cultural Centers like the Chicka- saw Cultural Center in Sulphur offer visitors a unique perspective of days past.
