CALYPSO 2.0

Just one year after opening, Calypso Waterpark in Canada has launched 10 new waterslides, courtesy of WhiteWater West.

All 10 are attached to the Summit Tower, the tallest freestanding waterslide tower in North America. Designed for thrill seekers, a pair of intertwined AquaLoops represent a Canadian exclusive, where adrenaline and centrifugal force combine to give swimmers an unforgettable experience. Four Accelerator speed slides each measure 90ft (28m) long, two of them ridden in four-seater toboggan boats and the other two with double inner tubes. Four Family Twisters, meanwhile, have been

given names such as AquaSnake, Pigtail, Mellow Yellow and Twist & Shout.

“The addition of this new aquatic complex is our answer to the tremendous success we had during the 2010 summer season,” explains Guy Drouin, Calypso’s president and CEO. “With 10 new waterslides in a single tower, Summit Tower is practically a whole other waterpark in itself!” Located in Limoges near Ottawa, Calypso

Waterpark was recently named World’s Best Waterpark by MSN Travel. All of its key Families and thrill-seekers can enjoy more than 35 heated waterslides, 100 water games and Canada’s largest wave pool. All key attractions were designed, manufactured and installed by WhiteWater. The new additions for 2011 represent a $5 million (€3.7m) investment.

Rainbow ready for the Olympics!

Rainbow Productions is to manufacture costumes and manage the personal appearances of Wenlock and Mandeville, Olympic and Paralympic mascots for London 2012.

The costume character company translated the Wenlock and Mandeville designs into walkabout mascots ahead of their public debut this May. In the run up to the games next summer it will now handle what is expected to be a very busy itinerary

of appearances with schools, sponsors, licensees and retail partners. As well as the standard costume, various special editions have been produced such as a Beefeater version. “Rainbow Productions have already worked with us over the last year to help us drive our vision to inspire young people to choose sport and we look forward to working with them between now and Games time,” says Simon Lilley, head of licensing for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). Rainbow Productions, which also produces various theme park mascots, was also the mascot provider to the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. The London- based company also manages the personal appearances of costumed versions of characters such as Peppa Pig, Bart Simpson and Bob the Builder.

UK playground supplier Timberplay has won a contract to supply a play area at Victoria Park in London – a site adjacent to the Olympic Village.

The £330,000 deal ($530,000/€375,000) deal is part of a wider lottery-funded project designed to breathe new life into the park and calls for several signature Timberplay pieces, including a Pyramid Towe (pictured) and Climbing Forest. Sand and water also feature heavily within the design, which will be realised together with Landscape Architects, LDA Design and Geoffrey Osborne Ltd.

“Our play equipment will be seen and used by thousands of children from around the world during the Olympics and will remain in place for thousands more to use for many years after the games have ended,” says a delighted Timberplay director Martyn Scholey.
