POPPY HILLS AND RIDGE CELEBRATE RESPECTIVE 25- AND 15-YEAR ANNIVERSARIES

This summer the NCGA celebrated an important milestone on the occasion of Poppy Hills’ silver anniversary. While the award-winning Robert Trent Jones Jr. design became an imme-

diate magnet for important tournaments ranging from the men’s NCAA Golf Championship to the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, the course’s most lasting impact is felt in the tremendous value afforded to NCGA members. Ten years later in 1996, NCGA membership benefi ts were enhanced two-

fold with the debut of Poppy Ridge in Livermore. The 27-hole Rees Jones- designed facility quickly established a reputation for its enjoyable sequence of holes spread across three nine-hole picturesque rout- ings, as well as its comprehensive practice facility and outstanding restaurant. On the courses’ respective 25- and 15-year anniver-

saries, it is appropriate to celebrate both championship layouts and their signifi cance to the NCGA member. The most immediate impact was felt on members’

wallets in the savings on green fees, in the golf shop and restaurant, but there are a host of other benefi ts that make the courses a complete experience.

FAVORITE HOLE AT POPPY HILLS

#13 It just looks good. It looks like Pinehurst to me. –Four-time NCGA Player of the Year Casey Boyns

#7 It’s a great driving hole. I like the way it sets up— you can work it either way. –Three-time NCGA Senior Player of the Year Mark Miller

FROM FACEBOOK:

#1 The fi rst hole is my favorite because it’s just the fi rst of

18! I realize I am playing one of the best courses for a great price. –Raul O.

#5 Tough as nails driving hole, a three-club deep undu- lating green with no bail-out to the right. It wasn’t the hardest par 4 on the PGA Tour for nothing! –Eric F.
