or All the S H. Leon Harter

aints...

Numbers can speak to people. In later life, Leon remembered “hearing” them already as a boy on an Illinois farm. Fortunately, there was a local Lutheran college—Carthage— which could help him develop his love for mathematics into a lifelong career.

After graduation, and service with the U.S. Navy in China during World War II, Leon became a statistician for the federal government. His expertise brought him international respect, and he edited an eight-volume bibliography in his specialty. He continued to attend college lectures well into his 80s—but he also remained true to his origins and became an ordained minister in his church.

In his last years, he gave his house to Carthage and received a monthly annuity from the College. Now, well after his death, a Carthage student receives the H. Leon Harter Scholarship each year.

Planned and estate gifts to Carthage, such as will inclusions, charitable gift annuities and trusts, and life insurance, provide ideal opportunities to benefit you and the College. Call Dr. Jim Unglaube at 1-262-945-3024; send e-mail to junglaube@carthage.edu; or write to him at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin 53140.
