Cape Henlopen, DE, Lodge members honored the winners of


their Americanism


Orange, CA, Lodge members honored US Marine Corps Sgt Nathan Campbell in a ceremony at the lodge shortly after his return from his third deployment to the Middle East. While Campbell and his unit were still overseas, the lodge had treated 17 wives of unit members to lunch, hair styling, bags of cosmetics, and a $50 gift card each to purchase toys for their children. In other news, lodge members visited Mary’s Kitchen, a local soup kitchen, and treated


more than 170 needy people to a Thanksgiving meal. Lodge members also delivered baskets to 175 needy families for Christmas. Each basket contained a complete Christmas dinner and a toy for each of the families’ children. In more news, the lodge Camper Club donated $400 to each of four organizations and initiatives, including the Elks National Foundation; the state major project, which provides in- home therapy to children with special needs; the lodge Dictionary Project; and the Orange Police Department to help purchase an additional police dog. The Camper Club also donated $100 to the House of Hope, a shelter for homeless women and children.


Santa Maria, CA, Lodge donated 25 bicycles and 25 safety helmets to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Maria.


Simi Valley, CA, Lodge hosted a Court of Honor Ceremony for new Eagle Scout David Gulotta, of Boy Scout Troop No. 622, and gave him a certificate and a US flag. For his Eagle Scout Project, Gulotta landscaped an area at Knolls Elementary School.

Sonora, CA, Lodge donated $1,800 to Interfaith Community Social Services and $1,000 to Operation MOM, which supports the families of deployed military personnel.


Temecula Valley, CA, Lodge mem- bers honored the six recipients of lodge scholarships and their families and treated them to dinner at the lodge. The lodge awarded scholar-


Essay and Poster Contests in a ceremony at Rehoboth Elementary School. During the ceremony, lodge members gave each of the more than 100 fifth-grade students who submitted an essay a $2 bill and a certificate and awarded certificates and $10 cash prizes to the top essayist in each of four fifth-grade classes. Lodge members also gave $10 cash prizes to the top two poster designers, both of whom were second-grade students. Essay contest winners included overall first-place winner Henley Kennedy and class first-place winners James Fleegle, Kellie Heinlein, and Olivia Winberry. The poster contest winners included first-place winner Sammy Han and second-place winner Ciara Pastrama.
