These locations each have different effects on the player, with gamers needing the heat resistant Varia Suit to travel across a land like the Pyrosphere, a landscape fraught with volcanoes and flowing magma. Other M also displays a new control system that takes full advantage of Wii Remote’s capabilities.


“The most exciting part about Other


M is the blend of 3D and first-person that brings together the classic gameplay of the older Metroid games coupled with the stunning visuals that are associated with the newer Metroid titles,” says Nintendo’s marketing assistant Roger Langford. “Holding the Wii Remote horizontally, players control Samus by jumping, shooting and turning into a morph ball to navigate around the colony.


Point the


Wii Remote at the screen and the game changes into a first-person view where players can look around the environment and lock onto targets, as well as explore areas more thoroughly in order to progress.”


The series is known for its action- packed levels and Other M enhances this further by introducing a previously unseen cinematic element to the


storytelling as well as the gameplay, with levels feeling like a movie that the player can control.





ARMED AND DANGEROUS The game comes with newly added attacks and moves. Players can now jump on enemies thanks to the Overblast attack, or choose to finish off an enemy with the aptly named Lethal Strike.


For every new way to kill an


enemy, there are also inventive means to avoid a similar fate. Abilities like the Sensemove enables dodging and The


Diffusion Beam scatters charged shots after impact. Players can also restore Samus’ health by holding the Remote vertically and pressing A, which activates a health-restoring skill. These new elements of gameplay, combined with the intended cinematic approach to presenting the action, all indicate an attempt to update and enhance gameplay whilst keeping the


Other M brings together the classic gameplay of older Metroid games with the stunning visuals associated with the newer titles. Roger Lanford, Nintendo


2D/3D combinations that made the series what it is. Last year’s release of Metroid Prime


Trilogy on the Wii became only the third game to achieve Platinum Status on the Nintendo Channel, proving the series is still massively popular with fans – if anyone really had any doubt about it. With some good feedback coming out of this year’s E3, the early signs suggest that the newest entry to the series could emulate and even surpass the triumphs of its predecessors. Metroid: Other M is released on September 3rd for the Wii.


” MARKETING BLAST


Nintendo is putting plenty of marketing muscle behind Other M to ensure that the latest title in the series will be the most


successful yet. An intensive month-long marketing campaign will kick off with


television ads across a range of channels commencing two weeks before the launch of the game in a bid to fuel the hype surrounding the new entry in the series. This will be further enforced by an accompanying online


campaign across a range of gaming and sci-fi sites, as well as a cinema campaign that will showcase the game trailer before September’s biggest action blockbusters. The cinema, online and television campaigns will be backed


up by eye-catching POS materials to push the excitement surrounding the game’s release into the forefront of gamers’ minds.
