Kao Ming Container Terminal Corp
(KMCT), a subsidiary of Yang Ming Ma-

banks for its new four berth Kaohsiung In-
tercontinental Terminal (KIT).

In 2007 KMCT signed a 50-year con-

CHASSIS
ordered eight twin hoist cranes from
ZPMC at a cost of US$100M (US$12.5M LIFT TRAILERS
per crane) for the first phase. The yard will
be equipped with 40 automated dual can-
tilever RMGs with a 42.5m rail gauge to
cover a 14-wide/5-high stack.
Each cantilever will be 9.5m wide to
allow for two truck/tractor lanes. KMCT
has decided not to use AGVs and to have
the RMGs travel parallel to the quay. The
limited depth of the site (just 475m from
quay to the rear boundary) is likely to
have been the determining factor in the
stack orientation.
KMCT has awarded the IT contract
to Korea’s Total Soft Bank (TSB), which
will install its CATOS TOS to manage
the terminal. TSB said that KMCT evalu-
ated three TOS suppliers and chose it “in
consideration of its advantages in yard,
tandem, and gate operations.”
