of SkySails sign the joint venture agreement
Zeppelin Power Systems and SkySails
have signed an agreement whereby the
two companies will jointly market the
SkySails system. Zeppelin Power Systems
will become a strategic partner to estab-
lish an optimal basis for the next phase of
SkySails’ development - introduction into
the market.
The new company will operate under
the name Zeppelin SkySails Service- und
Vertriebsges mbH & Co. KG to combine
their joint competencies. The partners say
that they want to set new standards for die-
sel-wind hybrid propulsion technology and
systems in a joint marketing and sales ef-
fort. Zeppelin has invested €10M in the
newly-established company.
“Increasing bunker costs and climate
protection requirements are forcing the
international shipping industry to change
their way of thinking,” said Ernst Susanek,
chairman of Zeppelin group. “In combin-
ing the most modern diesel engine tech-
nology of MaK and Caterpillar and the
wind propulsion systems of SkySails, we
are opening new horizons for the industry,
in line with the tradition of innovation of
both our companies’ founders.”
