700-foot World’s Fair Trylon and 200-foot Perisphere.
I
recently came across a general contractor’s “brag book” that was published in the early 50s! In today’s fast-paced world of internet promotions, social media and email, I found this 62-page book
a very compelling read.
As I turned the pages, I noticed that the information that is used today to qualify a company hasn’t really changed in over 60 years! It’s amazing to see how this contracting company from the 50s compiled its proj- ects and expertise and assembled the information in a concise way to build its business and its brand. The book is full of engaging pictures of projects and
testimonials from architects, engineers and owners and clearly took months to compile.
While I was reading through the book, it dawned on me that the type of marketing information that was published in 1950 is really much the same as the information we share today – only the media has changed. To that point, I took the liberty of creating a ProView of this company using The Blue Book’s online tools for building a compre- hensive online company resume. As I filled in the ProView, the similarities between marketing today and marketing six decades ago were striking. Here are some of the insights I gained. Hopefully, they’ll be helpful to you.
