New and Departing Board Members ISSUE #2


Jessica Best, MD, Houston, is an Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and works in various hospitals around Houston. She is this year’s TMA Resident and Fellows Section Representative for the TMAF Board of Trustees. Dr. Best graduated in 2012 from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies.


Matthew Edwards, Dallas, has been elected to a second, one-year term as the TMA Medical Student Section Representative. He is in his fourth and final year of the MD Honors Research Program at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.


Shannon Hancher-Hodges, MD, Houston, has been appointed to serve as the representative of TMA’s Young Physician Section. Dr. Hancher-Hodges is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. She is a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Roberto J. Bayardo, MD, (center left) is recognized for an unprecedented $3.2M gift to TMAF, which moved him and his wife, Agniela (Annie) M. Bayardo, to the top Major Donor level of “Visionaries.” The Bayardo’s gift established a trust fund in support of the TMA Minority Scholarship Program (MSP). Joining him are Russell Kridel, MD (center right), TMAF past president and two 2016 MSP winners, Monika Pyarali (left) and Laura Victoria Moore (right).
