ISSUE #1 Donors Envision a Healthier Texas in 2017
Thirteen initiatives will impact the health of Texans in 2017 thanks to nearly $600,000 in grants from TMAF Foundation.
More than $535,000 of the grants were awarded for six TMA programs that will reach more Texans than ever with immunizations, evidenced-based efforts to reduce obesity and much more. This is the third successive year that the foundation is granting more than half a million dollars to TMA health improvement, science and quality-of-care initiatives.
Nearly $35,000 of the total granted in 2017 support local outreach efforts by TMA county medical societies and alliance and medical student chapters focused on reducing risky behavior by teens, helping families and children to reduce obesity and adopt healthier habits and more.
Grants are made possible thanks to donations from individuals, corporations and foundations, as well as earnings from TMAF endowments. TMAF is the 501 (c)(3) charitable arm of TMA. SOLUTIONS MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The Transformative Power of Philanthropy
Deborah A. Fuller, MD President, TMA Foundation
I think we’d all agree that Texas Medical Association is a truly unique organization in its capacity to advocate for physicians and their patients. TMA leaders took a bold step when they established TMA Foundation in 1989 to enhance this capacity. Over the years we’ve all seen how philanthropy broadens our reach, our medical and business collaborations and our vision of ways to improve the health of all Texans.
As more TMA and TMAA members invest in the potential philanthropy affords, we become an unstoppable and highly visible force for creating a Healthy Now and a Healthy Future for more Texans.
Philanthropy can transform how we think about achieving good health. A great example is how Walk With a Doc Texas is helping thousands of Texans who have led a sedentary lifestyle to adopt one that includes weekly or monthly walking.
When the entire family of medicine embraces the role of philanthropy, we see new possibilities for collaborating with business and community groups who share our commitment to helping more Texans achieve great health.
We each have a vital role to play in improving the health of all Texans. Your generous support of TMA Foundation harnesses the power of philanthropy and makes achieving good health possible for more Texans.
Yours in good health,
Deborah A. Fuller, MD President TMA Foundation
