its culture. It likes knowing that its employees, from the top to the bottom, appreci- ate what Waupaca values and is trying to accomplish. T e same goes for parent
company Hitachi Metals, which sees the importance of promotions to keep continu- ity and local management. So it’s no surprise that the

eff ective June 30 and will be replaced by current COO and president Mike Nikolai, who will eff ectively take over as CEO on July 1. Gigante has served as CEO since 2007 and began at the company as a metallurgist in 1981. “It’s all about the culture. It’s very
unique,” Gigante said. “You’re always afraid that if you go to the outside you could per- haps change it. Not that change is bad, but the culture is very unique. It’s like a family.” Nikolai is familiar with that culture. Nikolai joined Waupaca in 1993 as a metallurgist and has gained more
responsibility with each new position. He’s been a production manager, assistant plant manager, and vice president of operations before being named president and COO on April 1, 2015. T e ascension of
Nikolai is the culmination of a fi ve-year succession process, and now he steps into the top of a company at a pivotal time in its his- tory. Not only is Gigante retiring, but also announc- ing his retirement is execu-
tive vice president of sales and marketing Kris Pfaehler, who will be succeeded by executive vice president John Wiesbrock. Waupaca’s merger with Hitachi Metals Automotive Components USA LLC has been fi nalized, and the iron casting giant is beginning
Vacuum Testing for Precise Aluminum Melt Control QCD-1 Porosity
T.R.P. Vacuum Tester (True Reduced Pressure)
• The TRP unit solidifies
The TRP unit solidifies the sample at a controlledthe sample at a controlled Absolute Vacuum Level. Absolute Vacuum Level.
• The tests may be made at levels from 100 Torr (-26”Hg) down to 35 Torr (-17”Hg).
• While freezing, the vacuum level is controlled to a range of +/- 0.20”Hg.
• If present, gases form internal pores and lower the Specific Gravity (S.G.).
• The full solidification process can be watched through a Vacuum Chamber window.
Measurement System
• The P.M.S. s used to quantify solidification.

• If the S.G. of the alloy is known, the % Porosity may then be read from a chart.
• If the S.G. of the alloy is unknown, another sample made w/o vacuum must be used.
• The % Porosity limit is the variable which is defined and used for process control.
