Charlotte’s GOT A LOT

C

harlotte, North Carolina, host to the VFW Auxiliary’s 103rd National Convention, does have a lot to offer visitors. What was

once the junction of two American Indian trading paths is now a bustling area called Uptown, the town’s highest point of elevation and home to world-class museums, sparkling skyscrapers and unique, family-friendly parks. Te city has a regal nickname – the

Queen City – named after King George III of England’s German-born wife, Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, when the city was founded in the 1760s. Today, Charlotte is known for its status as

a major financial center, second only to New York City. Bank of America is headquartered here, as are other Fortune 500 companies including Family Dollar and Lowe’s. It is also the place for NASCAR fans, who can take in the Charlotte Motor Speedway and NASCAR Hall of Fame in a city that is home base for the majority of this industry’s employees and drivers. And there’s more to explore.
