Post and Auxiliary members to not only improve their meeting spaces but also to proactively connect with their communities in support of worthwhile projects and causes,” said Richard Freiburghouse, Manager of the VFW Foundation. Vivian Simmons, Auxiliary 4920 President from


Elliston, Virginia, and Post Commander Berkley Simmons Jr., are recipients of one such community support grant. Vivian said they are so grateful for the funds, which they will use to create booklets honoring veterans. T ey plan to distribute these to veterans and community members. “We are a small Post and Auxiliary, and to receive


this grant means so much to us,” she said. “When I received the (decision) letter, my heart was full of joy knowing that we will be able to do something so special for those who have served. T is booklet is to honor our veterans living and deceased for their service to our country. It will be something that we can be proud of to honor men and women who served in our military. It will consist of pictures of each veteran and those who are living will be able to express their feelings of serving in the military through a part of the book entitled ‘Voice of a Veteran.’ Each branch of service will be represented in this book. T e members of our Auxiliary and Post are proud to be the recipients of the grant that will help us honor our veterans.”


FW Posts and or/VFW Auxiliaries are eligible to receive up to $1,000 from the VFW Foundation for performing important


T e application process is easy: Q T e VFW Post and/or its VFW Auxiliary can apply by going to www.vfwfoundation.org/grants. T e application must be signed and authorized by the head of your organization (Post Commander or VFW Auxiliary President) so that he/she is knowledgeable and supportive of the request.


Q After the application is submitted, the Post or Auxiliary will receive notifi cation from the VFW Foundation within thirty (30) calendar days of a decision. If the project has been approved, a check or notifi cation of ACH from the VFW Foundation will be included with the decision letter.


Q VFW Foundation Grant funds must be expended within nine (9) months of the award date which coincides with the time frame expected for project completion.


Q A Post and/or Auxiliary that received grant funding must complete a Final Report (also provided by the VFW Foundation in the award letter) along with proof of expenditures in the form of receipts or invoice copies that document spending for their project.


Q VFW Foundation encourages Posts and Auxiliaries to publicize pictures from an event funded by a VFW Foundation Post/Auxiliary Community Support Grant by uploading to Twitter, Instagram and/ or Facebook with a short post using the hashtag #VFWPostPride and #AuxiliariesinAction.
