COVERING OLYMPIC WRESTLING
Wrestling will be held for eight days during the 2016 Olympic Games, with 18 sets of medals awarded, with six weight classes in each of the disciplines: Greco-Roman, women’s freestyle and men’s freestyle.
Greco-Roman goes first (August 14-16), followed by women’s freestyle (August 17-18) and men’s freestyle (August 19-21). There is one gold, one silver and two bronzes awarded in each weight class, which is contested on a single day. Every day in Rio there will be medals awarded in wrestling. The wrestling venue is Carioca 2, which is located in the Barra section of Rio de Janeiro, not far from the Olympic Park, Main Press Center and Athlete Village. Every day, there are two sessions, 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., except for the final day, August 21, when the sessions are at 8:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. USA Wrestling will be hosting two press conferences at the Main Press Center prior to the start of the Games. The men’s and women’s freestyle teams will be available on Wednesday, August 10 at 12:00
noon.The Greco-Roman team will be avail- able on Friday, August 12 at 12:00 noon. Interviews with athletes and teams outside of the press conferences must be organized by USOC press officers and USA Wrestling Communications staff members Gary Abbott and Richard Immel. Contact them with specific requests. The USA teams will train at the Lonier training facility in Rio.
