NATIONAL FREESTYLE COACHES Bruce Burnett, National Coach Bill Zadick, Assistant National Coach


Brandon Slay, Assistant National Coach Bruce Burnett is completing his second stint as National Coach, having also run the freestyle program from 1992-2000. In May 2014, Burnett returned from retirement to lead the freestyle program through the 2016 Olympic Games. During his 10 seasons as National Coach, Burnett has coached the USA to 27 World medals and nine Olympic medals, including 13 World gold medals and four Olympic gold medals. During his first stint, the United States won the World Team titles in men’s freestyle in both 1993 in Toronto, Canada and 1995 in Atlanta, Ga., the only two times in history. Burnett served as National Developmental Coach for USA


Wrestling during the 1989-92. He was head coach at the U.S. Naval Academy for 13 years before retiring in 2013. Bill Zadick joined USA Wrestling as Resident Coordinator


and Assistant National Freestyle Coach in January 2009. He was promoted to the position of National Freestyle Developmental Coach and Assistant National Freestyle Coach in September 2010, working with age-group athletes. In 2015, Zadick’s duties as Assistant National Coach were changed, where he focused upon the athletes and teams on the Senior level. He has been hired as the National Freestyle Coach after Bruce Burnett’s retirement after the Rio Olympic Games. Zadick served as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Iowa wrestling team for two seasons (2003-04). Zadick won a World gold medal at 66 kg in Guangzhou, China in 2006. He was seventh in the 2001 World


OLYMPIC FREESTYLE COACHES


Mark Manning, Tom Brands and Lou Rosselli Mark Manning was an Olympic coach in men’s freestyle wrestling for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. The United States won two gold medals and a bronze medal. Manning served as a member of the 2011 U.S. World Team coaching staff, and the team placed third in the World Championships with two medalists. He was a 2009 U.S. World Team Coach, where the USA had two medalists. Other assignments included 2000 Pan American Championships, 1994 and 1996 Junior World teams, 1992 Cadet World team and two U.S. Olympic Festivals. Manning currently works as the head wrestling coach for Div. I powerhouse Nebraska. He is personal coach of Olympic cham- pion and 2016 Olympian Jordan Burroughs. He was USA Wrestling Freestyle Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2015. Tom Brands served as a 2004 Olympic Team coach in Athens, Greece, helping lead the USA team to a gold medal and two silver medals. He was a coach of the 2014 U.S. World Team in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which won two bronze medals. He was a coach with the 2015 U.S. World Team which won three medals, including two champions, in Las Vegas, Nev. and also at the 2014 World Wrestling Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where the USA had a pair of bronze medalists. Brands served as the Assistant Coach of the 2003 U.S. Freestyle World Team, which placed second at the World Championships in New York City, led by two silver medalists. He was named 2002 Freestyle Coach of the Year by USA


Wrestling. He is a coach for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, and a personal coach for 2016 U.S. Olympian Daniel Dennis.

Championships. He won a NCAA Div. I title for the Univ. of Iowa in 1996.


Brandon Slay joined USA Wrestling’s National staff in January 2009 as Assistant National Coach. He coached the US Olympic Training Center resident program in Colorado Springs. During his tenure, the USA has won 10 medals at the Senior World Championships.


Most recently Slay has been responsible for USA Wrestling’s age-group developmental program, which won 19 medals under his leadership.


Slay won a gold medal at 76 kg at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. He defeated Olympic and World Champion Bouvaisa Saitiev of Russia in the pool competition in Sydney, one of the greatest wins in American wrestling history. He was a two-time NCAA runner-up for the Univ. of Pennsylvania. He was a board member and on the staff of the Dallas Dynamite, a non-profit wrestling organization in Dallas. After the Olympics, Slay becomes Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Regional Training Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Lou Rosselli


Brands is head wrestling coach at the University of Iowa and led the Hawkeyes to three NCAA and four Big Ten team titles. He was a 1996 Olympic champion and 1993 World champion. Lou Rosselli was a 2012 Olympic coach and helped lead the


USA to three individual medalists, champions Jordan Burroughs and Jake Varner and bronze medalist Coleman Scott. Rosselli has coached numerous U.S. Senior World Teams, including the 2015 U.S. World Team, the 2013 U.S. World Team, the 2011 U.S. World Team, the 2007 U.S. World Team and the 2006 U.S. World Team.


He is personal coach for 2016 Olympians Kyle Snyder and


Tervel Dlagnev. Rosselli is a New York Athletic Club coach, and is head coach at the Ohio Regional Training Center. He was USA Wrestling Freestyle Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2013. Rosselli is Associate Head Coach at Ohio State, working on


the staff for 10 seasons. He was instrumental in helping the Buckeyes win its first NCAA Div. I national title in 2015. He was an assistant at Edinboro for 11 years . Rosselli was a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team as a freestyle athlete.
