3. HISTORIC HAVANA AND COMMUNITY ARTS Today’s People-to-People exchange starts at Maqueta de La Habana, a museum featuring a 1:500 scale model of Havana. Next, embark on a guided walking tour through the city’s nearly 500-year-old heart, Habana Vieja – now a pedestrian-only UNESCO World Heritage Site – with a local expert to discuss Havana’s architecture and historic restoration efforts. View the 18th-century Catedral de San Cristóbal – begun under the Jesuits in 1748 and completed by the Franciscans in 1777 – and learn about its ongoing preservation and restoration. Visit Projecto Muraleando, a barrio community art project whose sculptures and murals are created with found items; discuss its history and impact with artists and community members. Enjoy lunch with ocean views at a privately owned paladar on the seaside Malecón, then visit Habana Compás – a local Havana dance and cultural performance group – to meet company members, talk about their artistic mission, and see a demonstration of art, music or dance. Have dinner at your leisure tonight at a choice of restaurants at the hotel. Meals BLD
