Company & Charity News Equipment and Tool Hire Company, Speedy, is rewarded for exceptional
contribution to sick children with national WellChild Award Speedy, the UK’s leading tool and equipment hire company has been named as a winner in the prestigious national 2016 WellChild Awards, in association with GSK. Speedy has made an outstanding contribution in
providing volunteers and equipment to support WellChild as it transforms the homes of children with exceptional health needs. Speedy was picked to win the Volunteer category in these Awards which celebrate the courage of children coping with serious illnesses or complex conditions and honour the dedication of health professionals and others who go the extra mile to help sick children and their families. The Awards are run by WellChild, the national charity for seriously ill children. The Speedy team will be among the stars of the show
at October’s high profile Awards ceremony, which has been attended over the past few years by many of WellChild’s celebrity supporters, including Royal Patron Prince Harry. Since 2008 Speedy has supported WellChild in around
13 Helping Hands projects with more than 120 members of staff helping to transform bedrooms and gardens to make life at home safer and more suitable for children with exceptional health needs. With hundreds of nominations received from across
the country, the difficult job of choosing winners in all WellChild Award categories is given, each year, to an esteemed panel of judges. That panel consists of leading health professionals and others with an interest in children’s health and includes children and young people who face serious illness themselves.

Apprentice Award Recognition
for A-Plant At the North West regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2016, A- Plant was crowned as Large Employer of the Year Award for organisations in Manchester, Cheshire and Staffordshire. The awards recognise excellence in businesses that grow their own talent through apprenticeships and the apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces. Commenting on the award win, A-Plant’s Head of Training Bob Harper said;
“We are absolutely delighted to have won the Large Employer of the Year Award for organisations in the North West. It is amazing to think that back in 2005, the A- Plant Apprenticeship Programme started with just a handful of Plant Maintenance Apprentices to create the talent of the future and provide a pool of skilled employees familiar with our equipment and values. Today, we employ almost 150 Apprentices across our business, a number which continues to grow. “Plant Maintenance remains our largest stream of Apprentices but we also
offer apprenticeships in Customer Services, Driving, Mechanical Engineering, Payroll, Marketing, IT, Business Administration, Electro Technical, Welding and Fabrication and other disciplines. We are fully committed to our apprentice programme and we believe that they are an integral part of how our business grows.”
