Other modalities as massage (called
jet or talladas in Mayan medicine and tuina in TCM), the application of heated plasters by the Mayans (similar to the Chinese moxibustion), and the central role of prayers and limpias (energy clearings) in Mayan Medicine, comparable to the essential practice of qi gong, are additional examples of the resemblances between Mayan and Chinese medicine. Not known to many, the fact that these
two forms of medicine are much alike is undeniable. Where do those similarities come from? The answer to this question is open to debate, and many theories have been proposed. However, the most important debate comes from the fact that the Western world has welcomed TCM with open arms—while similar healing traditions, developed in the Americas, have been overlooked.
Modern research and studies have adjusted TCM language, so it can be understood in the West, transforming TCM into a bridge between the allopathic medicine world and traditional healing modalities. This transformation brings also an invitation to all Western Chinese Medicine practitioners, to expand this acceptance and extend the bridge to all healing traditions born on our own continent, as well as to the ones that are part of our cultural background and ancestral heritage.
