London-resident superyacht designer Philippe Briand, past One Ton and Half Ton Cup winner, steers his J70 Entente Cordial at the J70 worlds under a blended UK/French ‘flag’

service, sometimes undertaken at night in pyjamas by the RYS’s splendid secretary… a vision that alone was worth the passage, according to reports; the elegant and charming Americans remaining in town for Classic Week and the RYS Bicentenary Regatta – two other great treats. US sailors took home much of the booty – it was particularly nice to see NYYC Commodore Rives Potts Jnr sail Carinato success. And Byron Ehrhart’s Luckywas the well-deserved winner of the TR 2015. RORC was happy to support the Bicentenary Regatta by fielding teams in the main fleet and youth team racing classes. A reminder of offshore reality in the RORC Channel Race, great fleet racing in sparkling weather but the tables turned within a few miles of the finish as the last became first and the first (some of us) became… toast. Well done, Eric De Turkheim and Teasing Machine, overall winners. Our first Cowes Week in our new home and an opportunity to mark our 90th anniversary in very convivial company. And to come (at the time of writing) and with great anticipation, a very special Rolex Fastnet Race, an enormous entry with many exciting elements, not least being the presence of the 1931, 1933 and 1935 winners, Stormy Weather and Dorade, and our 2013 victors, Night and Day.

Thank you to all yacht owners for your great continuing commitment. And special gratitude to our race team and volunteers for their skill and dedication at all these events.

and new ones for Mike Slade’s Leopardand Tony Lawson’s Concise X; a class win for Griff Rhys Jones’s lovely Argyle; the overall prize to François Lognone’s Nutmeg Solidaire; convivial bilingual prizegiving outside the wall of the magical town. A demanding IRC National Championships in Cowes with a well-deserved and gentlemanly overall winner, Peter Morton and crew on Salvo; sweet also to give a trophy to Bart Vroon, Piet’s grandson, on Tonnere 4; hard luck on the dismasted; and warm sympathy to Dylan Gannon on his nasty injury. Sensational Louis Vuitton AC45F racing in Portsmouth on a perfect Saturday with a magnificent turnout of spectators… sandwiched between two of this confusing summer’s most miserable rainy days; and previously, the actual trophy in the Brémont watch store in London’s Mayfair, well rested after her own first-class transatlantic seat and swanky hotel room. After a tough crossing, the heroic finishers in the Transat- lantic Race 2015 were welcomed with a 24-hour greeting
