FIRST LAUNCH COMMENTS Sept 2011

Harry Dunning’s low-freeboard flyer offers a super cool – and cool-looking – way into the growing mid-sized ‘HPR-style’ pure performance arena at a pretty remarkable price. 25 boats have already been built with three more currently on order

Boat no1 greatly impressed her rivals with her pace in the 2013 TJV

The latest fruits of the Mills Design/MAT Yachts partnership is this aggressive IRC racer. Relatively light but with plenty of form stability, the prototype won its class on debuting at Hamilton Island. An alluring package for inshore and offshore racing

The first Class40 with in-line shrouds. Five examples launched

Marcelo Botín enters the HPR market… Good for the designers and similarly good for HPR. This production-built design takes full advantage of extensive CFD and VPP work with a very refined hull and appendages package

Lots of changes for V3, with 15% more power in the hull shape

Another one for the nascent Fast 40+s. Particular attention was paid to developing a hull form that planes downwind easily but that also delivers a competitive performance in light air. The third boat went to the UK for Peter Morton’s strong team

A promising and deeply attractive mid-sized Italian offering

Paul Hakes has teamed up with Hudson Yachts to deliver this thoroughly foxy-looking new flush-deck 42-footer. ORCi and HPR versions are now available with different-length keel fins. Five boats now sold… Several to Europe

Established one-design success story. 30+ boats sold…

Lighter in displacement than its race-winning predecessor, the new Ker 40+ features a deeper fin as well as an increase in reserve buoyancy forward. Already winning in IRC, three boats have been sold to the UK and more look likely

Nine of Ker’s big production IRC design have been sold to date Nine boats sold but now giving way to the Premier 45

What looks likely to be another fast-cruising success from this growing manufacturer; built using vacuum-infusion technology, her lay-up incorporates a 20mm Divinycell foam core everywhere except in areas of very high loading

The progeny of a well-known US west coast racer, boat no3 now sailing

An ultra-powerful new 44-footer that is directly descended from Carkeek’s all-conquering HPR 40 but which has now been tweaked for IRC. An offshore mile muncher and a high-pointing windward-leeward inshore rocketship…

A production foiling speedster for the average Joe… Average our a*se

A sylish performance cruiser with generous and stable handling characteristics. With an interior designed by Snøhetta, this yacht combines class-leading pace with a beautiful but still very usable interior

Boat no2 recently splashed. Boat no3 looks imminent. Fast, cool and carbon

Ker effected an IRC revolution when his relatively lightweight Ker 40s started cleaning up two years ago. This was the next evolution of the marque – and at a size that makes it an attractive choice for offshore enthusiasts. Four boats sold
