WESTERN The Western Holstein Club shared the Christmas spirit with those attending the December sale at Beeston Auction. We offered mulled wine and home-made mince pies to all attending the sale on what was a cold morning. It was a lovely opportunity for us to catch up with friends and get to know a few people we hadn’t met before.

In February 34 members took a coach to London for an overnight theatre trip, taking in Billy Elliot on the fi rst evening and the matinee showing of Matilda the Musical on the second day. There was

also an opportunity to visit the BBC Studios in Regent Street or Westminster Abbey.

The members that went to the BBC Studios had a tour of the news and weather rooms as well as the One Show studio and they also got the chance to read the news and weather. An alternative tour was arranged around Westminster Abbey where an informative guide gave an insight in to day-to-day life. Both tours were much enjoyed and the trip fi nished with a lovely

meal and chance for a group photo. Members were busy with the ‘Top 10’ herd competition in February, an opportunity to show ten cows or heifers and the much anticipated results will be announced at a later stage.

27th

STAFFORDSHIRE The Staffordshire Club’s Winter Classic Competition took place on 26th January with Roger and Dianne Steeples from the Cramar herd kindly

judging.

With 14 entries, including three new herds it was an exceptional competition. Many thanks to stewards Rob Parkinson, Janet Law and Chris Howe, as well as thanks to Andrew Dutton and John Lomax for providing a much appreciated lunch.

The presentation took place at the Coach and Horses with 28 members gathering to enjoy a meal before Dianne commended the quality of cattle they had seen and how enjoyable the two days had been. This year four new trophies were presented with thanks to the Hill family, John Lomax, the Marshall family and Chris and Maureen Howe. Achieving the most points across all six classes were J E and E M Marshall’s Overseal herd. The Staffordshire Club is extremely proud to be able to congratulate Tom Hill from the Hydaways herd on becoming the latest winner of the prestigious Holstein UK President’s Medal Award. Tom has been and is still a committed member of HYB.
