National HYB Coordinator Rebecca Kirk reports on the HYB team’s trip to the European Young Breeders School in Battice.


he European Young Breeders School trip proved to be as invaluable as ever with the UK team developing key dairy industry skills and making acquaintances with fellow young members from all over Europe and Canada. With the help of Edward Griffiths, non-executive director of HYB, the following team of young members who have show consistent enthusiasm and commitment to Holstein Young Breeders was shortlisted.

ZOE BRYSON Club: Scotland Prefix: Carnduff


Career Plans:


Currently a student with an ambition to achieve a degree in genetics. Favourite British cow: Mikali Seaver D Erle


Favourite international cow: KHW Regiment Apple Red Biggest HYB achievement: Winning champion showman at the Scottish Calf Show 2014.


“Being selected for the EYBS was a huge privilege and the week in Battice certainly did not disappoint. Learning every aspect of showing from washing to feeding and clipping to showmanship from some of the best showmen in the world was an excellent experience. I had a fantastic week spent with new friends from near and far. I also got to see some great cows and was particularly pleased to finish second in my showmanship class. It was an unforgettable experience full of laughter from start to finish. I am indebted to Holstein UK for selecting me.”


THOMAS HORSLEY Club: Border & Lakeland Prefix: Woodcatt


Career Plans: Tom would like to work on the family farm with the 220-head Woodcatt herd. In the future he has a keen interest in expanding the herd and business alongside his brother. Favourite British cow: Richaven Raider Squaw Favourite international cow: RF Goldwyn Hailey


Biggest HYB achievement: Being selected for EYBS 2015


“A top week was had in Belgium with some top people. I learnt a lot and I’ve also never laughed so much in one week. It was a great experience and I was delighted to be selected. The host family were so nice I’m starting to miss them.”


ROSIE BENNETT Club: Devon Prefix: Weycroft


Current Occupation: Agricultural Accountant. Favourite British cow: Weycroft Rouki Amy Favourite international cow: Blondin Redman Seisme


Biggest HYB achievement: Winning the handling class at the Weekend Rally and being part of the Devon team that came third in the Field to Foto Competition.


Zoe Bryson fi nished a credible second in her showman- ship class.


“EYBS has been by far the biggest opportunity and best experience I’ve ever had. I feel privileged to have met a group of awesome people who I would now like to think of as good friends. I don’t think I have ever laughed so much in one week while doing all the things I love. I definitely learned many different tips and tricks that will help me in the future. I will never forget the amazing experiences of EYBS 2015.”
