AWE PENSIONS ‘BETRAYAL’

Pictured are angry Unite Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) members protesting outside Parliament in December over management moves to close the defined benefit pension scheme.

Unite regional secretary Jennie Formby said, “Our members won’t be starved into submission by a hardline management – and the prospect of further strikes is very much on the cards.”

Unite members closed down London’s Woolwich Ferry on January 27 in a protest over harassment, health and safety, and issues around employment conditions.

Unite member Tony Kane said, “I’ve worked here a lifetime – and this is only the second time we’ve taken strike action since I’ve been here. We don’t take strike action lightly. This isn’t about money. It’s about standing up for the dignity of our colleagues and the health and safety of passengers and staff alike.”

As we go to press further strike action has been suspended and talks continue.
