News Helix spreads East with Embed
H
elix Leisure is continuing to expand the number of venues utilising its Embed payment and business management technology, and has just seen it adopted in new FECs in Kazahkstan and Russia. The technology is now being used in two new Funky Town centres in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where operator EMC has partnered with Embed on three previous projects and uses Embed for the cashless operation of their games and large-scale rides and attractions. EMC began developing and managing FECs in 2007, opening small locations of 500-
700 sq. meters. Today it has seven locations in Kazakhstan, some over 2000 sq. metres in size with more than 100 games and attractions. The new Moscow location is set to open on March 1st. The company partners with
Amusement Systems International for design and master planning of their family entertainment centres. “When we decided to upgrade our current card system, we looked at all the card systems on the market,” said EMC’s founder, Igor Novikov. “We chose Embed because it is the most modern card system on the market at this time. The Embed system has the best software, reliability, and stability. The system allows us to actively utilize the loyalty program and receive reports in a very convenient manner. Their technical support team is very professional as well.” Embed’s Director of New Business Development, Andrea Bisi said, “Funky Town is a
very experienced chain of quality FECs in the region. The management has long experience, solid development projects and a clear vision on their operation style. It is a pleasure to work with them and assist to bring their chain to the next level.”
Coney Island set for revamp? N
ew York’s famous Coney Island attractions area could be set for
a revamp next summer if a new set of redevelopment plans gain approval. The New York City Economic
Development Corporation and NYC Parks Department have issued a joint Request for Proposals (RFP) to develop 150,000 square feet of space along the Coney Island boardwalk, between Surf Avenue and West 16th Street and West 10th Street.
The land mass is divided into five parcels of unused land, which sit adjacent to Wonder Wheel, Luna Park, and MCU Park. The city is seeking proposals that will align with Coney Island’s history as an affordable, family- friendly destination. Expansion of the area began in 2009, with the creation of the Luna Park theme park that now sits on the site of what was once Astroland.
According to the Development
Corporation, the city is looking for proposals that “could include amusements and entertainment uses such as rides, attractions, concerts and other performances.” “The new attractions coming to Coney Island will bring significant economic opportunities to this neighbourhood, and give visitors yet another reason to visit New York’s most iconic beach and boardwalk,” said NYC Parks commissioner, Mitchell Silver.
