Gildan donates to relief efforts for Canadian fire victims

Northern Alberta in May and now Gildan has announced that it is donating a large collection of clothing to the evacuees.


The donation, which includes T shirts, underwear and socks and has a retail value of more than $400,000, is being made to the Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society. The EERSS has established the necessary infrastructure to receive the shipment and deliver the items to the people displaced by the devastating forest fires. Glenn Chamandy, president and CEO of Gildan, said: "Our thoughts are with the residents of Fort McMurray and Northern Alberta who have been forced to flee their


ore than 80,000 people were affected by the wildfire that ravaged Fort McMurray and


homes, leaving everything of value behind. "One of the pillars of our company's corporate social responsibility program, Genuine Gildan, is to be supportive of the communities where we operate, and as such we are pleased to be able to assist Canadians who find themselves in this difficult situation."


In addition, under the company's Gildan Gives program, Gildan has announced that it will match monetary donations made by any of its 600 Canadian employees towards the relief efforts.


Mr Chamandy added: "It is our hope that our


efforts will assist the Fort McMurray residents displaced by the fires in the process of getting their lives back to normal."


The wildfire started on May 1 and on May 3 it swept through Fort McMurray destroying 2,400 homes. The burnt area totalled 702,310 acres.


Dickies appoints a new UK sales director A


fter two decades as the sales and marketing director at Dickies,


Maurice Morton is retiring on a high and has handed over the reins to his successor. Rob Haines, who has been leading the way as regional sales director, has been overseeing the main UK accounts. He brings with him a wealth of experience. Mr Haines said: “This wasnt my first role at Dickies. I started my sales career selling workwear and tools to end users. In 1995 I joined the Dickies sales and marketing team and stayed until 2001. I left to broaden my horizons and took on a role selling

construction materials. “This gave me a far broader knowledge of the construction industry and the needs of builders merchants.”


Mr Haines added: “I am delighted to have been appointed sales director, cannot wait to expand further into the UK market and am looking to move into new areas. We have some dynamic plans currently being put into action – so watch this space.” Mr Morton said: “Rob is charismatic, with an innate understanding of the market place. He is a perfect choice for this role and I know he will make me proud.”

New exhibitors to Euro Trophex are set to impress E


uro Trophex has announced several new exhibitors to the show which will take place from October 15 to 17 at


the PTA in Amsterdam. New companies include Rayzist from the


USA which will be demonstrating sandcarving procedures and industry tips and techniques and Pohary Bauer from the Czech Republic will present its new line of acrylic and glass trophies at the show. Trotec will be giving live demonstrations of the Speedy 100, the Speedy 360 flexx and the entry-level Rayjet. Marloes Middelkamp, marketing manager at the company, said: “Exhibiting at Euro Trophex will give us the opportunity to showcase the diversity and range of our products. We will be demonstrating how to engrave awards and

other promotional products so visitors will be able to see for themselves exactly what our machines can do for them.” And its also the first time to the show for Swatkins Group. The company will be displaying its Great British handmade trophies. Stephanie Swatkins, sales manager at the company said: “We are looking forward to exhibiting at Euro Trophex, visitors will be able to see a selection of our brand new British made nickel and silver plated awards and our Revolution cups. The show will be a great opportunity for us to showcase our products to a worldwide audience.” All areas of the trophy, awards, engraving and personalisation industry will be represented at the show.
