Inficon is presenting its newly developed LDS3000 AQ at this year’s Chillventa. It has designed the LDS3000 AQ for leak testing
by the accumulation method. Helium or forming gas are used as detection gas. The new detector has a very low detection limit, measures continuously and detects leaks in the range of 10-5 mbar∙l/s in practical use. This is a particular advantage for testing for refrigerant and liquid leaks in heat pump components.
During the production of heat pumps, an increased concentration of helium occurs again and again in the production hall, which can negatively influence the sensitivity of measurements. The new LDS3000 AQ uses a mass spectrometer with integrated turbopump as a sensor, and is therefore ideally suited for an environment contaminated with helium. The LDS3000 AQ can use both helium and forming gas (a non-flammable mixture of 95% nitrogen and 5% hydrogen) as tracer gases. Even with forming gas, the device still detects leaks down to the range of 10-5 mbar∙l/s. Through automated processes, the accumulation method ensures reliable results with very high repeatability at all times. Manual sniffing is no longer necessary. Since the LDS3000 AQ also allows longer measurements of up to 15 minutes, larger components or parts with very low leak rates can also be tested. The accumulation chamber should be designed for the respective test object to ensure optimum gas distribution by means of fans and to keep the dead volume of the chamber low. The LDS3000 AQ is not only suitable for leak testing of the heat exchanger unit, but also for quality testing of the heat storage tank of a heat pump. Here, too, the measuring device scores with speed; it automatically tests the various water circuits of a heat accumulator.
If necessary, the leak testing with the LDS3000 AQ should be preceded by a simultaneous burst and coarse test. If the test piece is leaky, a manual sniffer leak search must follow for localisation. Like the T-Guard, the LDS3000 AQ is also equipped with modern fieldbus interfaces. Inficon’s test devices are thus Industry 4.0 ready and can be networked for complete data exchange.
