People on the move BESA appoints fi rst chief operating offi cer
T
he Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) has appointed its fi rst chief
operating offi cer as part of a signifi cant strategic transformation. Tony Gilbert joined the
organisation full-time at the start of 2025, having worked as a consultant for the Association since last year. He was previously with the management consultancy Illumini Consulting for 15 years, where he specialised in helping organisations manage change and position themselves for increased growth. Clients included the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA), the Ministry of Justice, RedRock Consulting, France Telecom, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, BAE, and the SThree group. Before that, he spent 10 years
as group technology director for France Telecom-Orange after founding his management consultancy in 1993. He has worked with senior leadership teams in the US, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. “Tony brings enormous
experience and vision to the Association and has already played a key role in our strategic review and re-organisation,” said BESA’s chief executive offi cer, David Frise. “We are delighted that he has now agreed to join us full-time to guide us through the next vital stage as we put our plans into action and refocus our products and services in line with this incredible time of change across the building engineering sector.”
Described by previous colleagues as an “inspiring and visionary leader with a broad range of skills and experience”, Gilbert said he was looking forward to putting his vision into practice to ensure BESA continued to provide leadership and support to the sector. “It has been a real privilege to work closely with the staff and membership of this historic and forward-looking trade body as it re- sets for an exciting and challenging new era in building services technology and practices,’ he said. “Our members and their clients
are facing an unprecedented range of challenges, including very tough trading conditions and skills shortages, alongside signifi cant business opportunities such as the rapid deployment of digital
technology and an urgent drive towards decarbonisation of the built environment. “The Association’s leadership has been working fl at out to ensure members have the information, tools and support they need not just to survive but thrive in this new environment,’ added Gilbert.
Daikin UK appoints Tomoji Miki as MD D
aikin UK has appointed Tomoji Miki as its new managing director, eff ective from 1 January 2025. He succeeds Hiroyasu Ishikawa, who has been appointed as managing director of Daikin Central Europe. Tomoji Miki’s experience in international markets and his deep understanding of local cultures position him well to lead Daikin UK into a new era of growth. Throughout his career, Miki has consistently respected the local customs and business environments of each country he has worked in while remaining dedicated to Daikin’s core
principles of innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. His leadership approach is tailored to each market’s unique needs, ensuring Daikin stays relevant and competitive globally. Miki commented on his new role: “I look forward to meeting many of Daikin’s customers in the coming months to understand how we can develop and grow our businesses together. “We see great potential in the
residential and commercial markets. We would like to go back to basics: providing the best products, best services, and best technical proposals that the market demands. In the

Mark Dyer will continue supporting as deputy managing director, ensuring a smooth leadership transition. Tomoji Miki’s career spans over 30 years at Daikin, during which he has worked exclusively in sales and held key leadership roles. His international experience includes 13 years in China, 7.5 years in Brazil, and three years in Malaysia. He also served as Daikin Europe’s Commercial DX SBU co-department manager, further demonstrating his global
expertise. In his roles as director of Daikin Malaysia and Daikin Brazil, Miki successfully drove growth by embracing both local business practices and Daikin’s global strategic vision.
