PNEUMATIC PILOT VALVE FOR CUSTOM MANIFOLD DESIGNS
The new cartridge valve (type 6164) from Bürkert is a pneumatic pilot valve where the solenoid and precision moulded plastic valve body will slot directly into any custom manifold. Due to its outstanding reliability, above average service life and efficient performance, this valve provides the best opportunity yet for OEM process and machine designers to move away from external packaged pneumatic control valves. Due to the increasing importance of space considerations, weight and energy saving requirements, customised pneumatic control solutions are becoming more common. The small size of the cartridge valves makes them ideal for use in multiples within compact manifold block solutions where they can easily be positioned and integrated wherever it is most convenient. This saves costs on materials and reduces the overall weight and size of the system or device. In addition to the use as the ‘core’ of future Bürkert valve islands the valve is now being made available as a standalone component.
MINIATURE VALVE FOR MEDICAL DEVICE APPLICATION
Parker Hannifin has unveiled its VSO LowPro miniature proportional valve for controlling the flow rate of inert gases in medical equipment. Just 16mm wide by 14mm tall, it addresses a key requirement for small portable devices where installation space is at a premium. This ensures that medical devices can benefit from a miniature valve that doesn’t compromise on performance due to size. Typical applications include pressure control, volumetric flow control and pulse dose control in devices such as portable oxygen concentrators, ventilators and patient monitors. With the VSO LowPro reliability is assured with operations up to 25 million cycles. Furthermore, it offers typical flow rates of up to 45 SLPM with a maximum of 2W power at room temperature. With an orifice of up to 2.03 mm and a weight of 12 g the VSO LowPro can perform the function of valves three times its size without sacrificing power. It’s important for OEMs to keep a tight control on costs to be
competitive. This valve features a low profile design which simplifies mounting and eliminates cartridge configurations that require complex and expensive machining, thus keeping a tight control on cost. Compliant with REACH, RoHS, CE, ISO 10993 and ISO 145001, 5, 12 and 24 VDC models are available. The two- way, normally closed VSO LowPro valve is designed to handle air, oxygen or any non-reactive, non-condensing gases. Very low power (typically 1W) enables portable capability and
Due to a wide range of conformance
certifications they can be used for general pneumatic piloting on machines, pharmaceutical production applications and medical devices. Typical instances are dental technology or oxygen control units for mechanical ventilation for example. The long life cycle and reliability claims are based on testing to more than 100 million switching cycles. The performance figures are based on switching times for opening and closing the valve of around 10 ms at a pressure of 1 bar and a temperature of 20 °C. The standard cartridge valve scores
points due to its high flow rate, pressure range and energy efficiency. The standard version covers the pressure range from -0.8 to 9 bar with a power consumption of less than 0.7
W.The valve body is made of PEEK and the seal of FKM. It is available in orifice sizes from 0.5 to 1.2 mm and with an operating voltage of 12 and 24 V DC.

allows designers to reduce the size of the power supply or battery. The VSO LowPro valve can be controlled by either voltage or current; however, it is recommended that current control be employed to ensure the most repeatable valve flow performance. For PWM (pulse width modulation) control the signal applied to the valve should have a frequency of 5-12 kHz with the optimum frequency dependent on the application.

The LOCTITE 4090 2-part hybrid has the speed of cyanoacrylate or superglue, the ability to bond almost any combination of substrates and the high temperature and chemical resistance properties of an epoxy. A precise and repeatable mixing ratio is critical for these adhesives, hence the introduction of the MM25 Volumetric Dual Rotor Pump. It allows manufacturers to take full advantage of the new adhesives in semi- or fully automated production. This dispenser uses positive displacement technology to ensure consistent dosing. It is based on two eccentric rotor pumps, the main
components of which are a stainless steel rotor that rotates within a self-sealing elastomeric stator. The elastomer is said to have the highest chemical resistance on the market, allowing the pump to be used universally. As it dispenses the adhesive volumetrically and virtually free from pulsation it gives far greater control over the amount of adhesive released; accuracy is ±1%. The volume flow depends on the size of the pump and the number of revolutions; direction of flow is reversible to eliminate the possibility of post-dispense dripping.

SPIRAL-RIB TUBELESS COMPACT BOILER
Fulton is launching its latest heat transfer solution that it believes to be the most radical change in steam boiler design since the company pioneered the vertical tubeless boiler in 1949. By adopting a systems engineering approach to design and using its own PURE technology Fulton’s SRT Series challenges the heat transfer and mechanical design principles of traditional vertical steam boilers. With over 30 worldwide patents pending, the vertical boiler’s spiral-rib tubeless design has enabled Fulton to create a compact boiler with “the industry’s smallest footprint”. The SRT is 40% smaller than the equivalent 30hp model from the company’s J Series. Using a combination of in- house modelling with computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis, the PURE Optimised design of the SRT Series makes the boiler durable and reliable in operation; with up to 6:1 turndown and featuring a fully-modulating burner the SRT boasts industry-leading performance with an 84.5% gross (93.5% net) thermal efficiency and 99.5% steam quality from a fully-water-backed design with no refractory. Patented, self-compensating stress relief architecture virtually removes longitudinal stress and deflection absorption. To comply with anticipated EU regulations the boiler’s combustion technology has been completely reconfigured with the mesh burner and furnace designed as a single component, resulting in ultra-low NOx emissions of less than 40mg/kWh.
